About Membership Education

Are you an incoming freshman or rookie bandsman interested in joining one of the greatest band service organizations around? Through selfless dedication to music, service, and the betterment of the band, Kappa Kappa Psi is unlike any other student organization on campus. The Texas Tech chapter, Alpha Omicron, renders valuable service to the Goin' Band as well as the other band programs through a unique and selfless effort.

Membership in Kappa Kappa Psi is one of the greatest educational experiences offered by the Texas Tech Band Program. The pure joy that one can receive from service, selfless dedication to music, and the betterment of the band can make the college band experience even more memorable.  The social aspect of the fraternity is unlike any other student organization on campus. The activities participated by each and every member are designed to improve the sense of brotherhood created through the sacred bond that each and every member shares with one another. These kinds of activities are what sharpen an appreciation for the best in band music and what it takes to achieve it. It is to this end that our National Fraternity is dedicated, and we cordially invite your participation in this effort.

The Texas Tech Chapter, Alpha Omicron, renders valuable service to the Texas Tech Band Program through a united effort on the part of the brotherhood striving to provide a memorable experience for all Texas Tech Band Members. To this end, several service activities, which Alpha Omicron members organize and participate in, include: hosting the Texas Tech Goin’ Band Golf Classic, to raise additional funds for the Goin’ Band; assisting with UIL events hosted by the Texas Tech School of Music; aiding in year-round preparation for the Texas Tech Band and Orchestra Camp; and providing community service for various local school systems and charities. Kappa Kappa Psi provides daily service and essential operational needs to the band, such as providing water, equipment setup, band hall maintenance, active recruiting for the band program, and providing fundraising for equipment, endowed scholarship funds, and various other scholarships for the Band and Orchestra Camp through individual chapter efforts and joint efforts with Tau Beta Sigma. Along with these activities, Alpha Omicron also participates with various high school bands at their home football games.

From a social aspect, Kappa Kappa Psi provides a wide variety of activities for its members ranging from nightly social events during summer band, participation in university intramural sports, hosting receptions after band concerts, hosting the Band Banquet and Barn Dance, hosting parties for visiting bands after football games, and having weekly post meeting social gatherings. We also host, with Tau Beta Sigma, an annual Thanksgiving party, Christmas party, and a Spring Formal for our members.

We are looking for outstanding band members to join us in our quest for a better band. It is your final decision whether or not to become a membership candidate for Kappa Kappa Psi. You will make no official commitment until January of 2011.

We hope that you will join us in the experience of a lifetime!
